Hoyt Park Expansion

Municipal | Concept, 2025 | Delhi, NY

Conceptual design for flood-resilient park expansion transforming a vacant floodplain lot adjacent to Delhi's well-used Hoyt Park. The design balances ecological function with community gathering—the landscape acts as a sponge during flood events while providing flexible recreation space.

An existing quonset hut is adaptively reused as a beer garden anchor. The site accommodates food trucks, picnic tables, and game areas using flood-tolerant materials: granular surfacing, no-mow lawn, and wildflower meadow plantings create inhabitable spaces that balance cost, maintenance, and accessibility. A modular amphitheater built from reclaimed materials provides informal gathering space. Tree plantings offer shade and habitat while reinforcing the site's capacity to absorb stormwater.

Part of the Delhi Garden Spot initiative, the design reimagines underutilized municipal land as productive community infrastructure.
